FastOrange® Wild Yeast medium selectively grows non-brewing yeasts while the typical brewing strains are inhibited. Mix your sample with FastOrange® Wild Yeast broth and easily detect wild yeasts within your brewers yeast. For more specific detection of S. cerevisiae var. diastaticus, incubate your sample at a temperature of 35-37 °C.
The principle of the selectivity is based on the EBC method 126.96.36.199 Saccharomyces Wild Yeasts, Cu-differentiation which describes the use of nutrient media supplemented with copper sulphate to inhibit the growth of brewers’ yeast. Typical brewing yeast strains are sensitive for copper ions and do not grow in FastOrange® Wild Yeast medium while wild yeasts show a higher resistance and grow up to detectable concentration.
