Our approach is universal: One single medium and one single process for all sample types during the whole process control starting from pure yeast down to the finished beer. But not only: FastOrange® can be equally used for the examination of fruit juices, soft drinks, mixed drinks or water, even milk.
FastOrange® is delivered as ready to use medium and can be used direct without any further processing. FastOrange® Bouillon is added direct to the sample, for hygiene tests there are pre-filled tubes with swabs available, agar is just melted and can be used as it is for pour plates or membrane filter analyses in petri dishes.
For enrichment, the sample is mixed with FastOrange® in a ratio of 1+1, no addition of sterile water or filling the sample bottle up to the brim is necessary. The evaluation of FastOrange® is easy for everybody, no need for special equipment – and it is clear: negative samples stay violet, positives change their color to yellow.
We know brewers and their special needs in breweries – since many years. The company owner works in brewing microbiology since 30 years plus, starting as a microbiologist at the Chair of Brewing Science in Weihenstephan. PIKA Weihenstephan was successfully funded in the year 2000 as a spin-off from the TU Munich, we are celebrating 20 Years PIKA Weihenstephan!
PIKA FastOrange® B is a nutrient medium which was developed especially for the detection of beer spoiling microorganisms in beer during the whole production process. According to the one-for-all principle, you can use it to enrich all brewery samples from yeast through fermenters down to the finished product. Beer spoilers as acid producing lactobacilli and pediococci are easily detected by a color change in the medium. FastOrange® B is available in the varieties agar, bouillon, tubes, and hygiene swabs.

PIKA FastOrange® Wild Yeast was developed for the detection of wild yeasts including Saccharomyces wild yeasts in breweries. The principle is based on EBC method 4.2.5.1 ‘Saccharomyces Wild Yeasts, Cu-differentiation’. Growth of brewing yeasts is suppressed while wild yeasts including Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. diastaticus grow up to visible concentrations. FastOrange® Wild Yeast is available as agar and broth as well as for hygiene swabs.
PIKA FastOrange® BRETT is a nutrient medium which was developed especially for the brewing and wine industry. Due to its special composition of nutrients, growth of both non-Brettanomyces yeasts and bacteria is inhibited while Brettanomyces yeasts grow up to visible concentration. Growth is indicated by turbidity/precipitation, accompanied by a color change of the medium towards yellow. FastOrange® BRETT is available in the varieties agar and bouillon and for hygiene swabs.

PIKA FastOrange® Yeast is a nutrient medium which was developed especially for the beverage and food industry as well as for breweries and wineries. Due to its special composition, both yeasts and mold can be enriched with this medium while growth of bacteria is suppressed. Growth is indicated by turbidity/precipitation, acid producing species are additionally producing a color change of the medium. FastOrange® Yeast is available in the varieties agar and broth and for hygiene swabs.

Competence in microbiology with a broad background: The innovative products from PIKA are derived from applications of our own in-house analytics and services for producers. All our products from the whole portfolio are perfectly matched. PIKA products are outstanding in easy handling and extreme reliability, our services in short processing time and top quality at affordable prices.
PIKA was first to come to market with PCR kits in a dried format. Each kit is a complete package including material for DNA extraction as well as reagents and tubes for PCR thus covering the whole analysis. All product relevant microorganisms are detected within one single test, the handling is quite simple.
We are fast and competent in doing routine analyses as enrichments, determination of colony counts and the differentiation of microorganisms – service and quality are most important for us. Of course we customize to your requirements and always deliver prompt and reliable results – if necessary, even through weekends.
Spoilt product or positive enrichments are further discriminated – fast and specific by PCR analyses the same day as the samples are received. We further identify unknown bacteria, yeasts or molds from product or the production area within 3 to 5 days by DNA sequencing.
Our work does not end at the analysis result, we further advise you how to deal with a contamination and propose the next steps to minimize the risk for further batches in your production line. You can also count on us when optimizing your routine quality control measures.
